You would never know that we’re facing a catastrophic economic crisis by how well the Nintendo Wii is selling.

According to Reuters, Nintendo has sold a formidable 800,000 units of its Wii during Thanksgiving weekend in the U.S.

It more than doubled last year’s sales, which saw 350,000 units the same holiday weekend.

Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata confidently stated, “When the economy is strong, people tend to buy three things from the top of their wish list. But when things are bad, people often buy only the first thing on their list. Fortunately for us a lot of shoppers put our products at the top of their list.”

Do you find his statement to be true?

How many of you have a Nintendo product at the top of your holiday list this year?

If your looking for a Nintendo Wii, we have a list of them for sale here.

  • If you can’t find a Nintendo Wii, you’re not alone. Shoppers across the nation were surprised to find the coveted system devoid in most retailers.  To some this is reminiscent of Christmas 2007, when the Wii sold out shortly after it launched. So what’s causing the massive Wii vacuum?  It’s simply due too good old supply and demand. Every Holiday season there are one or two items that everyone wants, which causes a demand that far exceeds the supply in stores.  The Nintendo Wii is the perfect storm in this situation. Just as the commercials advertise, people of all ages are playing the Wii. Now of course Grandma probably isn’t playing every day, but she may just have given it a try at your nearest Holiday family function. With this kind of popularity and the word of mouth demand that has been generated, retailers cannot keep up.

So where can you find a Nintendo Wii now? To become your child’s Holiday superhero you have several options. The first option is to exhaustively call every retailer that sells Nintendo Wii products and find out if are expecting any more shipments before Christmas. If they are, ask to get on their waiting list and if you’re lucky you may just get one. With some retailers you may need to be very persistent as most are bombarded with people this time of year. The second option is to pay a premium and jump in an auction. On the front page of our site is a list of complete Nintendo Wii Systems. All you have to do is click here or type in wiioutlet.com into your browser, find the auction you want, sign up for an account through eBay (if you don’t already have one) and place your bid. After placing a bid keep an eye on the auction to be sure you’re not overbid. Once the auction is over, follow the instructions on how to pay, shipping, etc. The third option is to enter any contest you may find giving them away. Of course, chances are slim that you will win, but someone has to win. These contests are often on local radio stations and websites. One note of caution, beware of websites giving Nintendo Wii’s away for free. Many of these sites are just looking for information to sell to your information other people.
